Just as an update. I'm still using the ASUS M4A78T-E Mobo but now I've actually updated to Ubuntu 9.10 Beta. All the sound seems to be working great so this issue must have been fixed with an update somewhere down the line. Not sure if all the options work for this sound card but I don't really have a chance to use them and find out.
