Public bug reported: I did an upgrade from 2.6.31-14-generic that downloaded a bunch of packages. About 80% of the way through the package install, I was kicked out of X back to a frozen gdm screen. A evilaim person on #ubuntu+1 claimed to see the same problem.
I fixed the issue by 1. reverting to the -12 kernel, 2. doing sudo apt-get --reconfigure -a I don't think that helped, 3. more reboots 4. sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic 5. reboot into single user 6. reboot as per usual. Hope this helps. // Randy ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Oct 17 00:25:53 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/yelp NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia wl Package: yelp 2.28.0-0ubuntu2 ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: yelp Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic x86_64 XsessionErrors: (gnome-settings-daemon:2187): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (gnome-settings-daemon:2187): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_propagate_error: assertion `src != NULL' failed (polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1:2296): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `initialization_value != 0' failed (nautilus:2273): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed (yelp:2840): Yelp-WARNING **: Yelper initialization failed for 0x1d940e0 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug -- jumbo upgrade left 2.6.31-14-generic unbootable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453698 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
