Sorry Andy, I forgot to report here. The problem is solved for me since yesterday (maybe it was on Tuesday).
1/ Display corruption. Solved with latest usplash packages I guess. 2/ "power off" issue. Not a kernel issue at all. Magic SysRq were working, I just typed them wrong (no need to press the Fn key to activate the SysRq key on my Lenovo T61)... Sorry.
