I did a new installation of karmic alfa6. Its been a lot of udates since
then and even a couple of kernel updates. Grub has automatically been
updated and has started from the latest installed kernel, for exampel
there was no problem with the update to kernel 2.6.31-12.

The problem occured after updating to kernel 2.6.31-13. I am pretty sure
that the packakge "grub" was the one installed from the start. The fault
could be that the wrong grub was installed from the beginning (karmic
alfa6) or it may have been that the updater should have unistalled grub
and installed grub-pc instead.

The problem was solved when I manually uninstalled grub and instead
installed grub-pc. After that I could run command update-grub2 and grub
started with the new kernel. Today was an kernel update to 2.6.31-14
and that worked fine also, grub started from that kernel automatically.
