I have never seen this in Ubuntu in the 4 years I've been using it, I would assume, without being critical that this may have been user error, as 'main' is enabled by default from a default installation. On the other hand, if another piece of software changed it, then that would be a problem. Is there any packages out of the ordinary you are using that could have caused this? We need a full list of what you did or were doing when this happened, or if it happens from a default install, then please report back.
