Did the microphone work in Jaunty? If it did, please check in the sound preferences window by right clicking the volume control and choosing settings. Then go to the hardware tab, and using the drop down box, choose an audio profile that includes output and input via microhphone etc. Then go to the input tab and make sure the microphone you want is selected.
