It is possible that your edits will get over written with a kernel
update later on down the line and that is why I suggested doing it a
different way.

The information is included in the kernel source, I found it in
/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.17/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt, and it
says:

"irqpoll         [HW]
 When an interrupt is not handled search all handlers for it. Also check all 
 handlers each timer interrupt. Intended to get systems with badly broken 
 firmware running."

But I couldn't really tell you what exactly that means.
