Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 9.04
KDE 4.2.2

Setting the language in the KDE4 (Kubuntu 9.04) system settings does not change
the related env vars.
KDE apps then have the new language, but e.g. firefox does not. It's still
shown in the system's default language,
in my case german. After disabling the firefox language and xulrunner add-ons
(except the one desired), firefox is in english/C.

Expected behaviour: After setting the user's language (not locale) all programs
should display their menu, messages etc. accordingly.
For most people it is simply not possible to fix that in the shell profile.
----
Workaround: Set the LANG variable:
dan...@paul-mac:~$ echo $LANG
de_DE.UTF-8
dan...@paul-mac:~$ export LANG=da_DA.UTF-8
dan...@paul-mac:~$ firefox&
[1] 18547
dan...@paul-mac:~$
(process:18547): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
        Using the fallback 'C' locale.

(firefox:18547): Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
