Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem
Wanting to play .WMV files with a WMA9 audio track in Totem, I got the error: ** Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|0.10|totem|Windows Media Audio 9 decoder|decoder-audio/x-wma, wmaversion=(int)3, bitrate=(int)256000 (Windows Media Audio 9 decoder) Following directions in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu and a dozen other places, I installed several Xine and Gstreamer packages, w32codecs, and finally totem-xine; the latter should reconfigure Totem to use the Xine framework instead of Gstreamer. Here's a summary of what I have: $ dpkg -l gst\* \*xine\* \*totem\* w32codecs | awk '$1=="ii" {print $2 "\t" $3}' gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.25-2 gstreamer0.10-esd 0.10.16-1ubuntu2 gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.9-1 gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs 0.10.25-2 gstreamer0.10-nice 0.0.9-2 gstreamer0.10-pitfdll 0.9.1.1+cvs20080215-1ubuntu1 gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad 0.10.13-1ubuntu1 gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-dbg 0.10.13-1ubuntu1 gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse 0.10.13-0ubuntu1 gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.25-2 gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-apps 0.10.25-2 gstreamer0.10-plugins-base-dbg 0.10.25-2 gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.16-1ubuntu2 gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-dbg 0.10.16-1ubuntu2 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.12-1 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-dbg 0.10.12-1 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse 0.10.12-0ubuntu1 gstreamer0.10-pulseaudio 0.10.16-1ubuntu2 gstreamer0.10-schroedinger 1.0.7-2 gstreamer0.10-sdl 0.10.13-1ubuntu1 gstreamer0.10-tools 0.10.25-2 gstreamer0.10-x 0.10.25-2 gxine 0.5.904-2ubuntu1 libtotem-plparser12 2.28.1-1 libxine1 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4 libxine1-bin 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4 libxine1-console 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4 libxine1-ffmpeg 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4 libxine1-misc-plugins 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4 libxine1-x 1.1.16.3-0ubuntu4 python-totem-plparser 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 totem 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 totem-common 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 totem-mozilla 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 totem-plugins 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 totem-xine 2.28.1-0ubuntu1 w32codecs 20071007-0medibuntu5 (plus the attached output of gst-inspect-0.10) Am I doing anything wrong? The error message from Totem still makes reference to Gstreamer, which shouldn't be relevant now. Gxine plays the files alright.
