To make the changes permanent you can modify /boot/grub/menu.lst.  You
will want to look for the line that starts off "# defoptions=", in my
config it is line 86, and add irqpoll at the end.  After that you will want
to run update grub as root, so 'sudo update-grub', and you should now see
that /boot/grub/menu.lst has your kernel line, towards the end of the
file, with irqpoll at the end.

However, looking through your last dmesg posting I see the irqpoll
option passed to the kernel but the same error message still appears.  I will
be interested to find out if you still have the same original symptons.
