Does the hard drive activity continue? It could be a detailed fsck
happening with no output on screen, as in bug #446596 or it may be
related to bug #443080. My experience is related in bug #440896 .

I had a similar problem, and the fsck took about 10 minutes before boot
continued - if it is doing your 1 TB disk it could be a very long time -
my disk is 160 GB. So one time when it seems to die, try just leaving it
for an hour or two and see if the boot does then complete.

Also, are you using the ubuntu-boot ppa? If so you might want to try the
latest version which has fixed bugs for me at least - to quote from the
comment in a number of other mountall bugs:
