Public bug reported: This is a minor problem which happens on a Dell Mini 9 when connected to a particular wireless network -- in particular, a WPA2 network set up on a Belkin N1 Vision router. I should add that I've seen this router cause a different, more serious kernel-level problem with iwl2200 and iwl3945 wireless cards, so I suppose there is something peculiar about it.
The attached screenshot should illustrate this problem. Once NetworkManager connects to the network ("lapsus" in this case), the SSID should appear between "Wireless networks" and "Disconnect" in nm- applet's menu ("Redes inalámbricas" and "Desconectar" in the screenshot). However for some reason it doesn't. Moreover, the applet icon in the system tray is for zero signal strength (this is visually more obvious with the blue/grey bars in the Human iconset than with the grey/greyer Humanity icons, but you can trust me on this), even though entry "lapsus" in the menu shows full strength -- and "lapsus" shouldn't appear in the "Available" list at all since it's the network NetworkManager is connected to. Hovering the mouse over the applet correctly reports a connection to "Auto lapsus", although it does not give a signal strength as it usually does. Other wireless networks do not cause any of the above. This small bug has been around since Intrepid at least. Let me know if there is any information I can provide to find the source of the problem.
