I have made a fresh install from the ubuntu studio karmic beta amd64 alternate
install .iso.
At first everything worked OK (screenwise, I've had some trouble with grub and
pulseaudio).
I then installed the restricted nvidia drivers and rebooted, still worked.
Enabled the "Extra" visual effects and those worked too but after the next
reboot the screen was all black when changed to graphics mode. Tried several
times with the same result.
Searched the web using another computer and got the tips to uninstall compiz
and compiz-core using recovery mode terminal, after this the display started to
work again. (all windows were initially stuck in upper-left corner but after
changing the visual effects back and forth they started to behave also)

Please tell me if I could provide any additional info (don't know what
happened to the apport-bug data when i opted to attach to this existing
issue).
