Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

While on a text chat (Gtalk), I accessed Conversation > Insert Smiley,
dragged my mouse over one smiley and pressed <return>. After a few
seconds, all Empathy windows turned gray and then closed. An apport
dialog showed up but disappeared a little later, before just when it was
going to open Firefox to continue the bug reporting. This seems to be
happening randomly. Sometimes I can reproduce the crash, sometimes I
can't. I have no other windows open.
