You want users to report any messages that are shown after grub loads
and before xplash starts (http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/karmic/beta).
Here it is:

... then something about usb stuff is printed (will write it as a next
comment as I wasn't fast enough to read it, then screen flicker and KMS
is enabled, then some messages about stating services are shown and then
xsplash starts.
