Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Fresh install of Karmic Beta downloaded as soon as it was released. Upon
first boot selection of the Broadcom STA Wireless driver is made from
the "Hardware Drivers" menu. Wireless lights up LED on laptop upon
successful completion of enabling the proprietary driver (Dell inspiron
e1705 laptop with broadcom 4311 wireless). Wireless networks are listed
under the network manager applet, but will not successfully connect to
any type of wireless connection secured or not; will only work with a
lan. Upon reboot the wireless LED light is not on, and the hardware
driver menu claims that the STA wireless driver is installed but not in
use. Doing a modprobe wl will not report any problems, and the wireless
LED will activate, as well as detection of available wireless networks
will be possible again, but will still only be able to use LAN for
internet access.

Also when the wl module is loaded the system likes to freeze up at
random as far as I could tell. If there was a reason for it to happen
then it was pretty sneaky. I don't know what logs to include, so just
let me know what I need to give you guys if you do need it.
