now, how does this occur?
in the buddies menu, there are a bunch of menu items (send message, view
log, view buddy info....") that can do type ahead based on your buddy
list contents.
however, it seems that with 2,18 (unsure if it affects earlier
versions), pidgin will repeatedly crash when looking for some of my
buddies with a back trace like I show above.
asked in #pidgin and they seem to think its a gtk bug, unsure how to
file a bug directly against gtk+2.0 as launchpad keeps redirecting me to
wiki about how to file bugs. (very annoying)
