yes it is i dont know if it has anything to do with my hardware but it is 
reproducible as it has happened on two accoasions (the first in ubuntu 8.10) to 
reproduce it you need to try to use two screens as an extended desktop and have 
to set the virtual resolution.
via the display option (system, preferences, display). there was no error 
message as such but there was a prompt to alow ubuntu to set the virtual 
resolution and when i tryed to turn the desktop effects back on (it automaticly 
turned them off) it just said serching for drivers and then said desktop 
effects cannot be enabled.
