Sorry, here's some more information.

If my machine boots into a text mode login instead of KDM, there's
nothing more that can be done at that point; it's frozen and not even
TTY's or SSH can access it. If I do by some stroke of luck get to type
anything, I'd do "sudo reboot" and it would freeze harder with a stack
trace displayed.

The only way out of that is to press the physical reset button. Then, I
pray for KDM to appear. If it doesn't, it will freeze again and I have
to keep resetting until I get in. After resetting, I do "sudo touch
/forcefsck && sudo touch /home/forcefsck" to check my file systems.
After all that, I reinstalled from the latest daily image, and it still
fails. Sometimes the Live CD will exhibit the same behavior.

Finally, when it does come up, not all is well. At that point, if I open
up a Konsole window or switch to a TTY, I can execute commands for about
30 seconds. After that, it freezes completely. If I use any command dpkg
or apt-get related, it will freeze instantaneously.

Sorry to type walls of text but I need to make sure you guys have as
much info as possible.
