After talking to people in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/alsa-driver/+bug/391114 and doing some search I've got some news on
this. The option "probe_mask=8" fixed the problem with the crackling
sound and the timeout errors from above, at least it seems so...
Furthermore, alsa-mixer shows all devices correctly (capture devices
were missing before). At the first glance, everything seems correct
now...

However, one problem remains: recording STILL doesn't work! When
recording with audacity, the time-slider doesn't move forward but is
constantly flickering. And when using GNOME's sound recorder, recording
stops immediately after starting it and the app crashes on exit each
time. PA's "volume meter" for recording doesn't show anything either.
I'm running out of ideas right now...
