FWIW, I never had two different ALSA devices on my machine here; the
external jack just supersedes the internal mike if I plug in an external
microphone. So if at all, this is an alsa/kernel issue. (I don't know
whether it's actually physically possible to treat them as two devices).

Jerone, is that a karmic regression, or has it always been that way?

Luke, can you please add some wisdom about where this bug belongs, and
whether it's possible to do something here? Thanks!
