Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.17-10-generic
On Feisty, I installed the kernel 2.6.17 that is in the repository through synaptic the installation had warnings W: udev hook script requires at least kernel version 2.6.19 W: not generating requested initramfs for kernel 2.6.17-10-generic and left an initrd image 0 bytes long So, I ran mkinitrd manually that generated an initrd image and I added my grub 2.6.17 entry manually, but boot failed umount: devfs : not mounted unknown filesystem type devfs ... kernel panic I posted on the user forum and the suggestion is that udev and libvolumeid are not compatible http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=357144 but i see no workaround this is similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/84094 but the platform is not AMD64, just an intel Pentium2 ** Affects: linux-source-2.6.17 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [feisty] kernel 2.6.17 in feisty repository cannot boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/84238 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
