Well, it seems you're right.  HP is extending the warranty and replacing
faulty wireless components in quite a few laptop models.  (Not mine,
though,.. at least not yet.)  Here's the link --

It seems this is a hardware failure related to overheating.  They have a
new bios to run the fan more to try to prevent the failure if yours is
still working.  (I actually installed a bios update last year that runs
the fan continuously, but it doesn't seem to have protected mine.)
