RKWard in the official intrepid and jaunty archives is riddled with bugs, unfortunately. I don't know, whether it is possible to get a backport of the more recent releases into intrepid/jaunty archives, or who would be able to do so.
Please try one of the .debs provided by Meik Michalke (http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/rkward/index.php?title=Binaries_and_Build_Scripts#Unofficial_Ubuntu_repositories). Building your own backport using the source package in karmic should also work. If you continue to see this problem with RKWard 0.5.1 or later, please post back.
