Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: upstart

apparmor-2.3+1289-0ubuntu14 (from Jaunty) depends on upstart-compat-sysv
(>= 0.3.9-6).  The new upstart 0.6 packages Provide upstart-compat-sysv,
but sadly virtual packages can't satisfy versioned dependencies (see
<http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-
relationships.html#s-virtual>). From what I can tell, empty
transitional packages appear to be the accepted method for
renaming/eliminating packages without breaking existing dependent
packages. A transitional package would allow Jaunty's apparmor
dependencies to be satisfied.

I understand that the version of apparmor in Karmic doesn't depend on
upstart-compat-sysv, but converting upstart-compat-sysv from a virtual
package to an empty real package will make it possible to backport
upstart 0.6 to Jaunty (plus it conforms to the guidelines in
<http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/pkgs.html#s5.9.3>).

** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
