It seems to be specific to Ubuntu -- Debian doesn't have this problem. As Wim has already pointed out in bug #37117, starting the daemon by start-stop-daemon manualla fails with the error message "Unable to set gid to 115 (Operation not permitted)" > The appropriate line probably wants '|| true' on the end. What do you suggest in detail? What line in which file? Running the init script for starting the daemon without actually starting the daemon is not an option.
