** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager

Update yesterday to Karmic caused DHCP wired network to not auto
  configure.

  Searched daemon.log to find:

  Sep 16 10:24:59 pharper-laptop NetworkManager: <info> Marking connection
'Auto eth0' invalid.
  Sep 16 10:24:59 pharper-laptop NetworkManager: <info> Activation (eth0)
failed.
  Sep 16 10:24:59 pharper-laptop NetworkManager: <info> Activation (eth0)
Stage 4 of 5 (IP6 Configure Timeout) complete.

Set IP6 to 'ignore' and NetworkManager was able to configure IP4 on the
  interface.

I don't know if this was a simple configuration reset caused by the
update or whether the underlying code now aborts if IP6 is not supported
  on the network.
