** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: mtpfs

Hardy Heron Alpha 5, fully upgraded as of the 9th (time of crash)
Package appears to be mtpfs (fuse filesystem to support MTP devices such as
MP3 players), at version 0.8+svn11-1.
I had mounted a Samsung YP-K3, and was manipulating the "Music" folder on the
device using standard cp / rm commands from the commandline. I expected to be
able to remove existing files, and copy new ones into the device as needed. In
practice this worked OK up to the point of the crash, at which point the
connection with the device was severed, and I appeared to be unable to
re-establish it.
