My system is Ubuntu 9.04. 
apt-cache policy blender says
blender:
  Installiert: 2.48a+dfsg-1ubuntu3


Blender starts correct, but when I select in object mode, it doesn't work. Only 
in the select-menu, I can select a lamp. 
When I start in console, it says ???

Compiled with Python version 2.6.2.
Checking for installed Python... got it!

I have downloaded the static version of Blender 2.48. Here, it works.
