I'm using Ubuntu Karmic koala Alpha 5, with all updates until 16 of
september. My Laptop is an ACER 5520, and since ubuntu 8.10 some models
similar to this have problems with the internal microphone. The
community has solved the problem
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/269294) in Ubuntu Jaunty, and I
notes that is Karmic Koala is easy to solve the problem.
First, Add the following line to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf
<b>
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=acer
</b>
After reboot, is necessary configure the volumes using alsamixer,
because the "sound preferences" of gnome can't do this.
With this steps, my internal mic works OK, including in the new Skype
Beta!
