Unfortunately I have also some bad blocks on /dev/hda5. Same problem.

Trying to fix the problem without "-c" parameter (e.g. fsck /dev/hda6)
is giving me at one point the expected output (Buffer IO error...) when
trying to read from the bad sectors.

Usually without "-c" parameter it will not be able to mark bad blocks
and fsck will not be aware of them.
