There has been a new release of catalyst driver last week.... (9.9) Maybe someone could try it out?. Though, I don't think the problem will ever be solved unless to use open source driver, which is what you have to do, even if it still missing some features, once we'll reach karmic+1 or karmic+2, it will be very interesting)
