Yes you are right, this is caused by GNOME and KDE having different icon
sizes. And no, the freedesktop specification does not standardize icon
sizes (not yet anyway). So unfortunately we can't do anything about this
since maintaining an icon size is a quite big effort (which is also the
reason that some icons are not available in all resolutions but only
those that they would be most useful for).
