It was the way that the launcher script was written in previous versions. Also, it is explained in the azureus wiki. I have to say I've been using 4.2.0.4 through 4.2.0.8 and I got that message only when I kill it, or start it from a terminal and CTRL+C there, which is the same. I'm not experiencing this kind of behaviour now, and has been tested on debian-testing and ubuntu jaunty. Please provide more information if the situation persists for you.
