"gconftool-2 --get /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc" gives this: pulsesrc
I tried on the command line gstreamer-properties it didn't work, and told me that I should install gnome-media. I installed it and rerun gstreamer-properties. Default Input Plugin shows PulseAudio Sound Server. After this I tried once again. At this time conversation window doesn't close. So, probably you should let Empathy install gnome-media with it in Kubuntu. Conversation is still impossible. I hear their voice at the same time. But my voice arrives them after 10 - 15 seconds.
