Andrew: I am still using Dapper - but it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore, as in the "Open file" dialog of Kile there is no "Storage media" bookmark. Thus, if I need to open a file on USB key, I need to find it in the file system (e.g. /media/LEXAR MEDIA/file.tex) in the open dialog - so URLs of the form media:/... are not used.
