Public bug reported:

I recently tried to upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 9.04 Jaunty which I am
using now.

I could not boot the PC because the DKMS installation of nvidia drivers
hangs. I have tried any number of things to fix the problem without any
success.

Today, I installed a Radeon HD 4350 PCI Express card. With this one at
least I get the PC booted and get good graphics, BUT, every few minutes
or whenever I change the focus window the screen goes black for a second
or so. I tried to install the ATI propietary drivers and get a ybuntu
bug with Jockey common. I have added my comments to the bug for that.

This current bug occured when I was using the Update Manager and it, for
resaons known only to it, has tried to reinstall the nvidia drivers
again and I got a bug meesage and a prompt asking to report it. So here
is it is. I have tried to copy and paste the details from Update
Manager, but it is a bit difficult when the screen keeps blacking out.

I have been struggling with this for ages (about 2 months) and it is
driving me crazy (almost enough to go back to windows.).

Is there some form of resolution to this issue.
I have tried to manually install the drivers but the make porocess simply hangs
- yesterday I left it running and it was still going this morning (some 18
hours later).

Should I simply re-install the OS - something that will cause even more
issues for me in terms of data management.

I really need to get this fixed and would pay for it.
