Binary package hint: scim
After installing Scim, Japanese input works everywhere except in
openoffice. You can paste Japanese characters into Oo, but it doesn't
let you change input-method using Scim to write Japanese.
I have run 'language selector' for Japanese, Checked that the Japanese
packages for OO are installed, enabled Japanese support in Oo, set
keyboard to Japanese, and all the other usual suspects, but no luck.
I am running Kubuntu Feisty Herd 3.
