I have the same issue after resume from sleep but not all time. To fix it I usually do a vt-switch to vt-1 and in txt mode I kill compiz.real (tried -USR1 as well) Then switch back to the graphical console and run compiz --replace to restart it. If you need further details, please provide steps to be taken instead of the ones I do to recover for capturing debug details. Has compiz.real any signal to output a threaddump or similar?
