I can certainly confirm this is the case, but I just want to make sure that
this isn't on purpose and that setting
rgba = FALSE won't change anything else that it shouldn't before uploading the
change. Subscribing the theme's author.

Andrew,
This was a personal preference that was inadvertently added and not
reverted. The default should be FALSE. I pushed the changes upstream
(rev. 21) along with minor enhancements (highlights) to the metacity.
