Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Ubuntu 9.04, on a Lenovo Thinkpad Z61m xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2 Text becomes corrupted after an arbitrary period of usage, usually several hours. See attached screenshots for examples. The corruption can be fixed by forcing the text to be re-rendered (e.g. by changing the zoom level in Firefox). Corruption is always associated with a particular character (e.g. all instances of upper case 'W'). Trying different AGPMode values (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Quirks#ATI%20AGP%20Mode%20Quirk) has no effect. Setting AccelMethod to 'XAA' does seem to fix it, but makes the system so slow as to be unusable (hard to tell whether this really does fix it, since the corruption only sporadically appears). Attached below are example screenshots of the problem in Firefox; and in Eclipse, the Gnome panel and a tooltip.
