"vesa" is a driver that works for (almost) all cards, and has no 2D or 3D acceleration so it is slow, and can not use high screen resolutions. It is used as a fallback.
You have uninstalled the "ati" and "radeon" drivers. This is not a case we are interested in, since these drivers are supposed to be installed. If radeonhd is installed but is not selected, it would be a bug. In no case an xorg.conf should be needed.
