One thing you should do is upgrade to the latest acroread (version 9). It is no longer provided by the medibuntu repository. It's in the Canonical Partner repository (see Software Sources->Third Party Software).
If that still doesn't fix the issue, I highly recommend the PDF Download firefox extension.
