Looks like something just changed in today's kernel build from Andy.

A bit terse, and should have included a reference to Andy's link, above,
so that people would have a clue as to what is going on.

According to Bug 297213 and related material, these aspects of Thinkpad
support are being removed from the kernel over concerns regarding "an
NDA that probably doesn't exist in the first place."  It appears that
Thinkpad users will have to go the DIY route
