Suffered this bug in jaunty, I don't know how to reproduce it, though I'll spend some more time working out how I did it.
I had to delete all the config files to make vlc work again, I don't know which one finally fixed it as I did them all at once. rm ~/.cache/vlc/plugins-04041e.dat rm ~/.local/share/vlc/ml.xspf rm -rf ~/.config/vlc/ I'll try to reproduce it again but I can't promise anything.
