Foreword that I could have made clearer: I am not a maintainer for any
distribution, I'm just a user trying to get your nice shinies working on my
Gentoo box.

I think it just hasn't become as ubiquitous as libnotify yet so it hasn't
been packaged. From my standpoint, I could not compile pidgin-libnotify
patched because I didn't have the libindicate headers or libraries, so I
made it work and I was pleased. That's the entirety of it.

This would be a similar model to the libnotify and
notification-daemon/notify-osd I take it? I'd agree to that as well just
from a coding structure standpoint.

The splitting of the packages mentioned above would make leaving the dependency
there a more appealing option. On the other hand having this as a compile
option would make us users of the more configurable distributions that much
happier. I apologize before I say this but if this patch gets downstreamed
to Gentoo in some way, and there's a USE flag for libindicate, I'm probably
one of the users to disable it :/. I'm just too used to my normal work flow.
