Alberto, I also have a suspend problem with amd64 2.6.31rc5. Can you check whether it works with 2.6.30 rt from here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/ I have not been able to debug but am convinced its a regression in the 2.6.31 amd64 kernel. 32 bit suspend appears to work normally.
