I'm afraid I can't reproduce your problem.  I don't get the "Communication 
problem" message.
Instead either the kpilot configuration window or the main kpilot window 
appears.  To me this suggests
some type of system configuration issue.

btw it seems that the "sudo" is unnecessary (and creates some problems of its 
own, in particular the
"owned by uid 1000" error messages).
