I ran "sudo udevmonitor -e" in one terminal and "tail -f /var/log/messages" in another. The output of udevmonitor was:
------------------------- udevmonitor prints the received event from the kernel [UEVENT] and the event which udev sends out after rule processing [UDEV] ------------------------- But no activity when plugging in the drive. Tail gave ------------------------- Jul 20 21:05:24 Alpha kernel: [17179799.088000] nv_sata: Secondary device added ------------------------- When the drive was plugged in but no more. Adding or removing other devices such as USB items and using my optical drive works fine and udevmonitor outputs lots of information and all that works fine, but it just seems to flat out ignore my SATA drives being added or removed. -- Hotplugged SATA drives not assigned /dev/sdX nodes https://launchpad.net/bugs/53441 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
