I think from your logs you have the 945 chipset (like I do); I came to the conclusion the chipset only allows a total of 4GB of physical address space - and that includes space for PCI devices etc - hence why you see less than the total 4GB.
However, I'm a bit surprised your BIOS managed to believe there was 8GB!
